Isn’t that where a cat’s equliberium is located at?
I am not planning on cutting off any cat’s whiskers. Just a question of curiosity.

they use their whiskers to make sure they can fit through gaps and holes
if you cut them off they will be un able to judge that
    plus its cruel

Yes, do not cut off your cats whiskers, they are useful for:
    Navigation
    Mood indication
    Measuring an opening
Whiskers help the cat feel his way around. Whiskers are so sensitive that they can detect the slightest directional change in a breeze. At night, for example, this helps a cat slink its way through a room and not bump into anything. How? The air currents in the room change depending on where pieces of furniture are located. As the cat walks through the room and approaches the couch, he’ll know which direction to turn based on the change in air current around the couch.
In addition to having sensory properties, a cat’s whiskers are also a good indicator of his mood. When a cat is angry or feels defensive, the whiskers will be pulled back. Otherwise, when the cat is happy, curious or content, the whiskers will be more relaxed and pushed forward.

But the whisker’s primary use is to help a cat judge whether or not he’ll fit through an opening. A cat’s whiskers are roughly as wide as his body — sort of a natural ruler. The whisker tips are sensitive to pressure. You’ll probably see a cat stick his head in and out of an opening before he puts his body in. He’s judging the width of the opening, and is determining if he can fit into it. An interesting note: cats don’t have a true collar bone, like humans. This allows them to turn and twist their way through very narrow openings.

Cat’s whiskers are used to help them with “logistics” I guess is the best word for it…

A cat’s whiskers grow as long as their body is wide.. this means if they want to get through the slats in a fence, for example, and their whiskers touch the sides, they know that they probably can’t get their whole body through, whereas if the whiskers are shorter because you have cut them, they will not have the right perception of their size and could get stuck…

    Funny, but true!

they are used to sinse movement. they are extremely sensitive to air movement and pressure. they can detect an objects presense from a distance. like a radar. so dont cut them off. its one of their sensing abilities

That would be very cruel. The cat uses its whiskers all the time for balance, measuring openings, etc.

I believe it affects their balance a bit…but then again my daughter when she was 3 went through a phase of scissors and gave the poor cat a trim on his whiskers and he was fine, I noticed no difference.

There whiskers are feelers to let them know where they can and can not fit. Usually a cat’s whiskers are as long as the cat is wide. Cutting them off doesn’t hurt the cat..but it’s not very nice. Kittens will usually eat the whiskers off their siblings for some weird reason..and they all survive.

NEVER EVER EVER cut a cats whiskers they will not be able to judge certain things like how big holes are so they can fit through them with no problem, they won’t be able to walk as straight as they normally would, and it also messes up their hunting ability. So if you care about your cat NEVER EVER EVER cut it’s whiskers.

Hopefully you receive the harshest punishment allowed by law for animal cruelty!!!! Although you may have no intention of doing this, stop giving other creeps bad ideas please!

OUCH… cats whiskers are really sensitive they have alot of nerve endings and they use them to judge distance between of spaces they go thru, if they are outdoor cats they use the whiskers to hunt for mice or any other small creatures they tell them which direction the animal is moving in.

it would throw their senses way off! the whiskers play a large roll in balance & judgement. that would be very mean to do. :(
