I will not get rid of my cats! They rule the roost in my house. Water does not work due to the fact that I have cats who like to play in water. I cant hang the plants because they do not get enough sun ( old house, small windows, lots of paneling). Keep the answers coming.. so far so good, you all have given me lots of ideas!

You could use moth balls. Or, you could *** in them and mark them as your territory. Your cats wont go near them if they know you have already marked that area.

my mom had the same problem so she got a wateer gun and sprayed them everytime they went near it and eventually like a month or two they stpped scratching it and digging in her plants

Get the bitter tasting spray for pets at a store and spray it all around the plants. It won’t harm your cats or the plants.

OK..this may be hogwash but i have seen in England and Austria people putting bottles of water against fences etc to keep the cats away….what it supposedly does is scare the cat as it gets closer and its reflection gets bigger thinking a big cat is about…..hey!!!! not my idea Lil…….try with small jars or something.

Most large pet stores have products you can use to keep your feline friends off your plants. Just be careful to read the label before you buy! This is the simplest solution.
Since it is ivy, you might try something that worked for me with a trailing plant years ago. I stuck them up high or hung them in front of the windows. I taped down clear packing tape, sticky side up, in the places the cats would have to tread to get to the ones that were high. I also put loops of clear packing tape, sticky side out, on several places along the vines.
Cats **** touching their paws and nose to adhesive.
By the way, this also works with Christmas trees. I put loops of clear packing tape, sticky side out, around the lower branches where they join the trunk of the tree, and it stopped my cats from climbing the darn thing!

If you decided to live with cats, you must accept their behaviors. u should give them the freedom they need. If you dont see them as your house’s random accessories, but as your house mates and friends, set them free in your house.. coz they re free-spirited animals.

The only thing I have found that works is to use either chicken wire shaped around the plants or sheets of aluminum foil molded around the plants and tucked into the sides of the pot.
You have to water carefully into the area that is open around the plant but it does seem to keep the cats out.

I had a cat that liked to dig in my plants when she was mad at me so i put either tin foil over the dirt under the leaves and scotch tape (sticky side up) around the edge of the pots and she stopped going near them. They don’t like the feel of either on their paws. When I caught her trying to eat the leaves, I had a spray bottle of straight water ready. I’ve heard bitter that bitter apple is supposed to keep animals away. I have also been told that paprika or cayenne pepper works as well.

I have a shelving unit I use for plants near the window. My cat did the same thing yours do. I finally sprinkled chili powder on the shelves and the plant dirt. Only took my cat one whiff and he hasn’t been near that area again.
